THE LEGENDARY SINGER-COMPOSER

(1920-1989)

Hemant Kumar Mukhopadhyay, The eminent singer and composer was born on 16th June, Varanasi in India. His father was Kalidas Mukhopadhyay and mother Kiranbala Devi. He first sang in 1937 from Columbia Records Compay.Beside Bengali & Hindi films,He was also a music director of one English film Siddharth (1972). He first went to Mumbai in 1948 & to BBC in 1980's. He also performed in Netherlands. He sang in the Hindi films under name Hemant Kumar. Meanwhile, throughout his musical journey, he sang in many live TV programmes which are still unseen to people. Hemant Kumar sang with another well known singer in Bombay as well as in Calcutta- Manna Dey. Manna Dey was also an eminent singer in Bombay as well as in Bengal. They togather sang a few famous duets.
